We love you Daniel! Daniel has been an inspiration to us all.
Dear Friends and Family of Daniel Vega,
I would like to invite you to share your feelings of support, your stories and memories or any pictures you may have of your time spent with Daniel.
We will be continually updating this blog so remember to check here first for any news regarding Daniel.
Thank you to all for your love and support during this difficult time. Here is a summary of the events so far.
Wednesday evening, April29: Around 7:30pm, Daniel suffers a ruptured brain aneurysm. Taken to Fallbrook Hospital. Catscans confirm that there is bleeding in the brain. Transfered to Escondido Palomar Hospital.
Thursday Morning, April 30: A second catscan reveals the severity of his injury. At about 6:00am Daniel undergoes procedure to draw blood and relieve pressure from his brain. Procedure is successful. Before noon, he is transfered to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. Daniel survives a second procedure to alleviate pressure in his head. Doctor cannot operate on aneurysm until swelling in his brain goes down. Surgery for aneurysm is scheduled for Saturday morning.
Friday, May 1: Daniel rests and hears from friends and family. Doctor says Daniel's swelling has gone down or that there is less pressure so surgery will continue as planned. Otherwise, Daniel would have to wait for swelling to go down naturally. However, Doctor warns that if brain is too swollen, he might have to abort during surgery.
Saturday, May 2: Daniel goes in for surgery at 7:30 am. This kind of procedure takes 6 hours or more. Anuerysm is clipped. Surgery is successful. Daniel rests all day.
Sunday, May 3: Cathy speaks with Doctor. Of course, Doctor reiterates the severity of his injuries and that Daniel's recovery is going to take time.
Monday, May 4: Continue to hope and pray for Daniel, Cathy, Olivia, Danielito and Nayeli.

As a survivor of severe TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) I know that HOPE is alive. As much as the doctors may know, there is a limit to how well they can predict the outcome. God is in control and He's will be done. I am praying that He will choose to miraculously intervene. Pray with me for Daniel and his family.
ReplyDeleteTairou and I are constantly thinking about and praying for Daniel and his family since learning of his condition Friday. Life is so fragile and this comes as such a shock to all of us. We hope for a miracle and know that Vega has the strength of body and mind to overcome.

We just came back from seeing our friend. We were very sad but also very happy to see the love and support of Daniels family and friends. We hope and pray for Daniel that he recovers and Cathy, the kids, and his family that they find strength in each other during this trying time. We will be here for support in any way needed. Your soccer parent friends Gary and Carol.
ReplyDeleteI competed against Daniel almost two years ago. I believe he ended up taking third place at the World Championships, for our division.
ReplyDeleteHe was an awesome competitor, and beat me down till I had nothing left. I will always remember how as I walked off the mat, he patted me on the back. It was as if he felt bad for winning. To me, that was great sportsmanship.
Below is the video.

I have not seen Daniel in years, but he was a huge part of my life for a long time growing up. He was one of the best friends I had as an early teenager. I am so sad to hear about what has happened, but at the same time very optimistic because it is Daniel and he has always been so strong. I am praying for him & his family & I know he can get through this. Love & Prayers, Jeannie Lowe-Thomas
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to Daniel and his family. I am so sad to hear of this. I have known Daniel all my life. We grew up on the same street. May God bless him. All my love and prayers to him and the Vega family.

GREG & I ARE PRAYING DAILY AND HOURLY FOR DANIAL'S FULL RECOVERY. ALSO FOR ALL HIS FAMILY. LINDA/GREG NORTHRUP; SUZI PERE TOO.
ReplyDeleteI have only met Daniel twice, but I felt saddened right away at hearing the news. I have gone through this with two of my cousins and contrary to what the Dr's say, miracles do happen. God listens to prayers and that is why I continue to pray that He may heal Daniel according to His will and that He provide comfort to his family and friends.
ReplyDeleteI remember Daniel fondly from our time in CBB during 2000-2001 and it breaks my heart to know that he is currently facing this situation. I've been praying and asking friends and family to do the same for him since I heard about him from Maria. The last time I saw him, during November's 2008 CBB 35th Year Anniversary Party, he was as fun and dynamic as I'd remembered. I pray that the Lord sees him through and heals him; and that He hold Daniel and his family and loved ones in the palm of His hand at this time.
ReplyDeleteThis message is for Cathy...I went to CSUSM with Daniel and worked with him at RCC Norco...he has been a friend for a long time. I know deep down in my heart that Daniel will come out ok and you will have him back. I am also a mother of three and cannot begin to imagine the heartache and anguish you are feeling for your children. Daniel said you are a wonderful mother...continue to be possitive, strong and hopeful. I wanted you to know that I am thinking of you, your children, and will pray for Daniel.
ReplyDeleteOur thoughts and our prayers are with Daniel and his entire family. This has been an awakening to all of us to truly appreciate the little things in life. To his familia we are here for you and if there is anything we can do please let us know. Jose, Monique, Diego, Nayeli Cardenas
