"Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work: you don't give up." ~ Anne Lamont

Daniels condition was somewhat stable this Sunday. Daniel's fortitude and spirit have seen him through the last 19 days. His surgeon, specialists, and ICU staff have employed all their skills, medical science and technology to the process of healing. Daniels family and friends have stood fast in support of his courageous struggle. Cathy, Margarita, Victor, and Daniel's brothers appreciate all the outpouring of love and support.
The heart warming demonstation of kinship and concern has been present since April 29 in so many ways. Friends traveling from great distances, offering solace, bringing food, cards, running errands, helping with child care, praying with the family, asking prayer groups to remember Daniel, visiting and talking to Daniel, and offering assistance.
Many names have been mentioned in earlier posts. The Hope for Daniel Team is growing. Among those 'presente' this last Sunday were:

Armida Pimentel
Chuy and Angela Miranda
Olga and Roberto Chavez
Oscar Vega, aka 'Pilon'
Marha Munoz
Luis and Socorro Vega
Jim Hill Daniel's co worker
Laura and Lorenzo
Raquel Vega and Jessica
Nestor, Sara, and Alessia Aguilar

  1. Chuy and I were also there this Sunday. Chuy goes to visit everyday after work to see Daniel and check in on the family. We continue to hope and pray for Daniel, Cathy, and the kids. We have faith that Daniel will make it through this difficult time and that he will recover.

  2. Thank you Mrs. Miranda. You and Chuy have been there all along...Daniel is a fighter and when he pulls through we'll get together at K Sandwiches and talk social justice!

  3. On Saturday, May 16th we had a small get together for the newlyweds Hector and Arizbeh Vega (his new wife). Congratulations! As I was leaving I mentioned to my parents (Luis and Socorro) that I was going to visit Daniel Sunday morning. They suggested we carpool. Jessica and I arrived at my parent’s house the next morning. We all got into dads (Luis) car. Jessica and Mom (Socorro) sat in the back. I sitting in the front passenger inserted some CD’s my father had out. As the 1st CD started playing my father turned the music up and said “Daniel me grabo este CD” (Daniel recorded this CD for me) it was the Rolling Stones. It brought a smile to my face and thought to myself how awesome is that … We are on our way to see my cousin Daniel and the CD that starts playing is the exact CD that he had thoughtfully recorded for my father. Was it just a coincidence? Who knows? But I know how it made me feel inside. We listened to Great Music on our way to see a Great Man.

Vega family and friends it brings tears of joy seeing everyone come together. We are a very large and strong family. I know Daniel can feel the Love, Strength and Power we offer combined. We are all strong individuals but together we can perform miracles with the guidance of God. Keep those prayers alive. God is listening and so is Daniel.

Cathy, Tio Victor, Tia Mago and immediate family. You are all doing a Great job! Keep your hearts lifted up high full of Hope and Joy because Daniel and we can all see and feel it. When you cry, we cry. When you smile, we smile. When you believe, we believe and our hearts TOGETHER full of Hope, Joy and Prayer WILL lift Daniel off of that hospital bed!

Daniel we Love you and look forward to your full recovery real soon.

    Lots of Love,
Your cousin Raquel Vega (aka Kelly)

  4. Victor, I am going to try to do this blog thing consistently. I am learning how to navigate all this technology one step at a time, but I figure I have shared enough experiences with Daniel to complete a book. So where to start? That's a tough one, I will need some time to decide...

  5. Chuy take your time...may I suggest that you begin by telling a little about your experiences with cbb...a watershed event if there ever was one...for both of you I imagine. Thanks.

  6. Kelly you are the silent warrior no longer...thank you for the wonderful story. It is the little things that make a difference, I'm sure we can all remember a moment when Daniel, with a small gesture, has made us feel important. Thank you.
