Day 24

Daniel had another calm night. You're on a roll Daniel!
Si se puede!! No new medical challenges.
Daniel is experiencing greater stability as each day passes.
The sedation level, which originally was at 10, was reduced
by 50% to number 5 on the metering device, today it was
reduced again to the number 4!
Daniels physiological condition and other factors influence
the decision to slowly bring him out of sedation.
Three weeks ago Daniel had a craniotomy. A craniotomy is
a surgical operation in which part of the skull, called a
bone flap, is removed in order to access the brain.
Craniotomies are often a critical operation performed
on patients suffering from a traumatic brain injury (TBI),
like a cerebral aneurysm. Having access to the aneurysm
allowed Daniel's surgeon to attach a clip to stop the
hemorrhaging. The bone flap has not been replaced yet.
The shunt continues to perform well. It has drained a
significant amount of cerebro spinal fluid , reducing pressure
and swelling on the brain. With the reduced fluid, a depressed
area forms on that side of the head.
This is common with all patients that have had a craniotomy.
Healing is occuring each second, each minute, hour and day.
Daniel's physical condition and his innate, tenacious
determination give him the endurance to persevere.
This is going to be a very long and arduous journey.
More surgery is a given. And certainly months of
rehabilitative therapy.

My Name Is Ricardo Perez And I'm A Student At The RCC College Mr. Vega Is A Counselor At... He Has Been A Huge Help To Me In Getting A Plan For The Future Together He Has Been A Great Mentor And Friend. This June I Graduate With A AA And AS From RCC And Thank Mr. Vega For His Help In Getting Me Here And Can Not Believe That He Will Not Be Able To Attend... I Saw Him A Week Before He Had The Aneurysm And We Joked Around... I Wish Him A Speedy And Smooth Recovery And Have His Family And Him In My Prayers I Hope To Go Down To Visit Him Soon God Bless

Nos vamos llenando de angustias porque sentimos que no entendemos lo que pasa y eso nos lleva a sentirnos tristes y sin sentido. Nuestra mente es una maneja de ideas envuelta en preocupaciones y reflexiones, que sin duda nos va quitando la paz. Porque la pregunta repetida sin respuesta es...Cuando Daniel despertara?

Hello. I'm an old friend of Daniel from the days of y.s.c. I've spent many days playing video games with daniel at his home near UCR. I had the great pleasure of working with and developing a wonderful friendship with an amazing man. To the family, My prayers are with you and i would like to visit him when it is appropriate. Daniel has a strong spirit, a true fighter at heart. I look forward to his complete recovery so i can beat him in the latest video game.

Although we have lost touch from our Americorp days, I still remember you for having an uplifting personality, and a contagious smile. You always seemed to have a thirst for life, and I KNOW that same thirst is whats going to pull you through this. ReplyDeleteMy prayers are with you and your family. It is amazing how life is some time. I just found out about your condition from Lito and Cordell, I remember hanging with you just last year. My wife and I were talking about the counseling field with you. You were the same joking, full of life guy I knew back in the day at Fallbrook High. For the family of Daniel if you need anything please contact me I am here in San Diego in Mission Valley. My wife and I are more than happy to help anyway we can. I know you have a lot more to give to this world and you will make a full and extraordinary recovery. You have a lot of support and your family has continued to stay strong.

I just heard about Daniels' stroke and my heart goes out to the family. I regret everytime I fussed at Daniel about his dogs eating my dogs food. I feel like a bad neighbor. But, Daniel always made things right and did his best to be kind and open with the neighbors here in Valley Center. God bless Daniel and his family at this time, and, I will pray for all of you. Let me know if I can do ANYTHING to help out, including going over and feeding your dogs. The Vegas are truely good people and I am so sorry you are having to deal with such a severe crisis.

Hello my name is Robert Hinostroza, I was a former student of Daniel Vega back in 2004. When I was enrolled in his Chicano Studies course, he would share the obstacles he overcame in order to obtain a higher education. I had given up on school for a while, but in 2008 I decided to return, and thanks to your stories Daniel I found the motivation to finish. I will be applying to transfer within this month hopefully to a Cal State. Stay strong Daniel, and I wish you a fast recovery.
ReplyDeletehi, im a former student of daniels at rcc norco, also in the chicano studies class in 2004. i recently came across an old paper he had us write, and i decided to look him up to see if he was still teaching. i had no idea and im in disbelief of whats happened. all i can say is that daniels amazing personality has stood out throughout all of my education. if anyone has any updated information, id love to know how things are going. thanks. olivia z. gurlieliv82@yahoo.com
